Phase 2

The tumor only invaded the submucosal layer with stage 2 stomach cancer. And the cancer cells had spread to 7 to 15 lymph nodes. Or the tumor has invaded the submucosa and muscle layer. On the other hand, the tumor may have penetrated to the outer layer of the stomach. Cancer cells do not spread to lymph nodes and other organs.

Phase 3

The tumor has invaded the submucosa and muscle layer with stage 3 stomach cancer. The cancer cells have spread 7 to 15 lymph nodes. Or the tumor has invaded to the outer layer, the cancer cells have spread from 1 to 15 lymph nodes. In worse cases, the tumor has invaded nearby organs like the liver, colon, or spleen. Cancer cells do not spread to lymph nodes and distant organs.

Phase 4

Cancer cells have spread to more than 15 lymph nodes. Cancer cells continue to metastasize to further organs.
